Hi there,

Welcome to the Upcycle Design Lab. I am so happy you stopped by. If you like crafting with recycled and repurposed materials you are in the right place. I hope you will take a look around at some of the other upcycled projects that l have made and join me in re-thinking the things you throw away.

Over the years I have made a lot of different projects from super simple to more complex but always with an eye to using what I have on hand and particularly in my recycle bin.

Currently, I am working on a much bigger project to remake my craft room. This week is my tenth project in this series and it might be my craziest project so far but it makes me smile even if it is a little juvenile. Somewhere along the way in this room makeover, my projects took on an Alice in wonderland feel so I have decided to just go with it and with today’s project I am totally embracing the Alice theme. If you would like to check out the other projects in this series you can find them all here.

The hardest part of this project was stripping off all of the old paint. Which is a pretty messy job no matter how you do it. I did use my heat gun for some of the drawers but it was such a big job that I did resort to the paint stripper for most of the task.

Once all the paint was off I mixed some custom stain colors to finish the fronts of the drawers. All you need is some natural stain and oil-based paint to make your own stain colors.

Here are the drawers after the stain was applied for the lighter colors I went back and did a second coat.

I guess I could have left their rainbow colors by themselves but I decided to put some artwork on the fronts of the dressers as well.

I used a tracing machine from Artograph to transfer my design to the dressers.

It was kind of tricky to paint the design but I’m happy with the result. It is fun and fanciful and a little bit silly but it matches my no-sew curtains and my crazy cardboard frames and believe it or not this is not the craziest project that I have planned. You will have to stay tuned for that one. 🙂

You can find more details in the video below.

Thanks again for stopping by.

Happy Upcycling,
