Hello All,

I do hope you are well. These are such strange times right now. It feels like the whole world has fallen down the rabbit hole. Are you out of work right now? So many of us are. It is a bit unnerving all this uncertainty and extra time to fill. If you are like me you may be checking news reports too often, counting and rationing your squares of toilet paper or binge-watching funny cat videos.

I have to say that I am actually surprised at myself. I have always considered myself to be a bit of a hermit anyway so you would think that this self-isolation thing would be a piece of cake for me. I have often dreamed of taking a month off of work to concentrate solely on my crafting and my blog but now that I have been forced into it I find that I am feeling listless and even board or maybe just scared. I shouldn’t be sharing this I suppose. I should be sharing an upbeat and hopeful message amid all this uncertainty. But the reality is that I am worried about the future. Will I have a job when all of this is over? Will I or anyone I know get infected? How long is all of this craziness going to last anyway?

Of course, these are unknowable things and therefore should not be given much time or worry. Easier said than done of course.

This seems a good time to be reminded of the words of the Serenity prayer.

“God grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, the courage to change the things I can and wisdom to know the difference.”

I will try to do better keeping these words in mind going forward.

I feel a little torn about crafting right now. On the one hand, it seems so trivial. And on the other, it seems sanity-saving.

I do hope you are finding some happy ways to spend your time. And if you enjoy crafting, now is a great time to use up some of those extra craft supplies, learn a new skill or finish that project that has been hidden in the back of your closet for months. In a world that is currently out of kilter making something with your hands can be quite calming.

And so onward with today’s projects.

This is part one of two posts that will contain five Alice in Wonderland DIY Decor projects. Today I am sharing the first two projects, a re-purposed giant key and some roses made from a deck of cards.

Project One

For years we have had our keys hanging on this giant wooden key. But I recently convinced the hubby to let me have it for my Alice in Wonderland themed craft room.

The project was simple. I just removed the hardware.

Added a coat of gold spray paint.

Used a little black paint to make the finish more antique looking.

And finished it off with some gold dimensional paint.

Project Two

The second project took a little longer.

I used a deck of cards to make four roses in different sizes.

I learned from other YouTubers how to make these. Some of them used hot glue to make their roses but I found that Fabri-Tac glue worked better for me.

I used the 13 spades in the deck to make this first rose. The others were bigger and smaller.

The stem is cut from a wire hanger and then wrapped with florist tape.

The final step is to glue on some leaves cut from scrap fabric.

The process is a little complicated to explain just in photos. You can find all the details for both of these projects in the video below.

Thanks for stopping by. Stay healthy and….

Happy Upcycling,
