The plastic bag debate – how do you re-use them?

Sturdy tote made from plastic bags

You may think that plastic bags are more terrible than those plastic straws that are getting so much media attention right now. But I just think of both of those things as craft supplies.  I once made a dress that was decorated with straws cut to look like beads, but that is another story.

To be clear I do try to use re-usable bags at the grocery store and to not take a bag when I only purchase one or two items but somehow those bags still find a way to accumulate in my closet. And well, when ever I have a lot of one thing my mind just starts to try to find a new use for that thing.

I guess to be completely honest I have to say that I am actually a champion for plastic bags. They are one of the most versatile and re-usable of our many disposable items. I do hope that if you use them they don’t just end up in the trash as soon as you unpack your groceries.

I use them to pick up after my dogs, I use them for padding when I ship items that need to be protected. (I have an Ebay store so I try to recycled a lot of packaging material.) I also just re-use them to carry stuff in and as actual trash bags for under my sink.

But of course it is more fun to use them in my craft projects. Here are some ways to prep your bags for crafting. If you have never crafted with plastic bags I hope this will give you some new inspiration to give it a try.

Happy Upcycling,
